an inspiring trip for a seminar on artist endowed foundations and time in some very special artists' spaces, hosted by the Aspen Institute's Artist Endowed Foundations program.

D and I are working together this month helping update an inventory and preparing work for storage for a dear friend whose mother passed away over thanksgiving. aside from being a painter, ethel fisher also happened to be RBK's mother-in-law.

her home in the palisades is a testament to her life and creativity.

and she had a fabulous collection of chairs.

while many of the rules and regulations around artists' estates vary greatly between the U.S.A. and Europe, the philosophical issues are universal. this workshop provided the opportunity to discuss circumstances that arise when you are dealing with the very personal and at the same time the very public. from archives to artwork. from inventory to exhibition. to legacy.

I am grateful that this group has become a community I will be connecting with again. that sounding board is important to me, working alone in my little backyard office.

and now back to "real life".

I'm in London for a workshop organized by the Institute for Artists' Estates. Very much looking forward to the opportunity to hear from some of the top people in this "industry" - as well as to visit some amazing artists' physical estates and talk about the more esoteric issues around the work I do.

Charles Garabeidan 1923 - 2016

So very sad to hear the news today of Chas' passing. And so very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him over the last year. In going back through his work from his days as a UCLA student through to his last show at LA Louver, the journey of memory inspired. And he reminded me of the need to sometimes look back, to see how far you've come. What a life. RIP

spent a day this week reviewing 40 years of one artist's sketchbooks. mainly life drawing, but also portraits of family, and simple still life drawings capturing the day-to-day. so good.

studio project

I'm thrilled to be doing a short contract with a wonderful painter, who at 93 is still going strong. working in an artist's studio is still my favorite thing.



when I was in my teens i wanted to be a painter.
when I was in my 20s I wanted to be an art conservator.
when I was in my 30s I wanted to be a mom.
in my 40s, I love what I do. all I've ever wanted mixed together perfectly.
