back{pack} to school

back{pack} to school

i had started this before e's return to school, but then ran into difficulties sewing through the many layers with my old machine. happy to report my new machine made it a breeze. so good! and ready to hold books and lunches. first grade has been a breeze so far too. so good! (she has an amazing teacher. which for me is so much what it is all about.)

the pattern by liesl. available through purl.

fabric left over from reupholstering an old chair and from superbuzzy.

off to a pta meeting! happy tuesday!

oh my gosh. so cute. what a lucky little first grader!

my kindergartener had a melt-down when i suggested having a *plainer* backpack and insisted on pirates of the caribbean. so ugly. oh well.

So cute. Our preschool requires a certain bag and box lunch boxes. I'm looking forward to making a backpack and lunchbag when elementary school starts next year.

It's beautiful. Makes me wish I bought the pattern when they were still available.

I'm not sure if Liesl ever plans to reprint the pattern but I know she's sold out of them and I'm fairly sure Purl is too. It hasn't been on their website for quite some time. Perhaps if you call...

Just had to come back and say I was wrong. How did I miss Liesl's post that the backpack pattern was being reprinted? I certainly didn't miss her post today though. Now I can attempt to make a bag as lovely as yours. Hurrah!

That backpack turned out great. I may have to get that pattern for the day Elise wants to start carrying her own bag!

Good luck with the PTA this year. I'm glad you got a good first grade teacher!

Oh, nice! I like your fabric choices! And yes, the pattern will be available again very soon. Glad you're liking the new machine -- the walking foot is extremely helpful for all those layers of fabric.
