i do not really consider myself a knitter. more of a yarn-lover. i do enjoy knitting and have found myself picking up my needles more often as of late. my grandmother was always knitting. my mom learned from her grandfather and spent time over the holidays teaching her granddaughter.
i gravitate to ease. so these toast mitts (beginnings in the photo above and finished in the photo posted below) were a perfect fit. (thank you friend!) and completed with a yummy merino/silk i picked up at purl when i was last in ny. (do not be intimidated by the number of needles. these are easy to do!)
i have just joined ravelry (inspired by rosa's cowl) and have a list of things in my queue.
inspiration abounds. perhaps a sweater is in my future?

enjoying the sun and listening to the inauguration news on npr.
(i lent our "rabbit ears" to e's class so that they could all watch the morning's events. initially k and i were to watch with them. but an appointment was shuffled around - and we ended up with the optometrist who must be a republican as there was not a peep of inauguration coverage to be found. *sigh* thank goodness for npr.)

completely proved the notion that there is really no such thing as a truely vegetarian-fed-free-range chicken. no matter how hard we try.
she is always chasing bugs in the garden. but today. today she caught a mouse. a teeny tiny mouse. and as e and i tried to get it from her she turned and swallowed it in one quick gulp.
best part. my girl squealed. not with fear or disgust. but with mousing admiration for her chicken.

with record snowfall on the island we were quite "cottage-bound". our infrequent forays off our property involved d pulling the girls on a sled up the 1/4 mile drive to the road.
my heart is in the winter. all this white stuff was oh so good.
