567 minus 1

567 minus 1

the detritus of two birthday parties over the weekend.

the big bug won the jar of gumballs. for having the closest guess to how many were in it. 567. (she guessed 594.)

i don't think she had ever had a gumball before. at least not to my knowledge.

i told her that this jar would likely last her until she was 12. and no, she can't have one everyday.

how was your weekend?

ha! yes, one must control the gumball intake. they lose flavor quickly, so she'll find out soon enough that one is not very satisfying. and then she will want more. i can't even have them around. my weekend was filled with work, but pretty good. i like that photo, t.

but they look so pretty in that big jar! this brings back a memory, my grandma used to buy a big tub of super bubble bubble gum and if we wanted a piece we had to pay her three cents, that way when all the gum was gone she could buy another one. of course most of my early childhood was spent obsessively looking for spare change...

I like the animals very much. J tells the story of when he was a kid, a truck used to come around selling candy. He always got bubble gum for a cent a piece. One day his dad gave him a dollar so he bought...100 bubble gum pieces. He kept them in a special bag, for a long time...and didn't chew much bubble gum for the remainder of his childhood.

My niece told my daughter that the way you eat bubblegum is to chew it for a little bit then spit in the trash.

maybe gumballs are making a comeback. like cupcakes did.

i applied a tarlike substance to the base of my climbing hydrangea to try and catch the root weavils. oh wait?! when i did i turn 65 and retire...?

That is so funny! The picture is great. My sister got a tub of bubble gum one year for her birthday and I remember being so jealous. :)

wow. that is some bubblegum assortment.
perhaps the excitement and interest will wane
quickly and they will become more background
color... perhaps. beautiful photo of the tiny
toys and candy though. :)

one brainless day I bought a big jar of gumballs to "have around the house"...what was i thinking? my girls were like your bug--they wanted one everyday until I finally had to throw them out!

Great colourful and fun post, and then so many great comments, lovely to read people's gum stories.

I was a tiny kid but I had (still have) a HUGE mouth so I used to put in as much as possible till my face hurt, then not have any till the next summer.

Weekend was as busy as yours, but not nearly as wonderfully colourful. Kept trying to take pics but the light was too gray. Your pic has brightened up my day.
