cooped up

so as we trounced around berkeley our friends were anxious to show us this...

coop inspiration

we have been dreaming up chicken coop designs down here. at first i was going to bite the bullet and invest in one of these (i do think they look great, and the coop itself isn't that much for what you get)- but then the shipping knocked me down (half the price of the coop itself!?) and we decided to put pencil to paper and do it ourselves. (steph's truck is still the winner for me so far.)

are there any coops in your neighbourhood you could share?

happy (can it really already be!) thursday!

Oh I really love chickens - I would have them in a minute if I could.

I have no personal experience but there is a crazy lady who lives down the street with a rooster who she whiles away the day hanging out with on the front lawn. I easedrop on their conversations whenever I get a chance.

I'll let you know if I hear anything that could be of use.

I am so jealous! I would love to have chickens. Is the legislation in your area quite free re. small livestock or did you have to get a permit/poll neighbours etc?

I am sure whatever coop you come up with will be fantastic - as will your weekend egg-breakfasts!

we are lucky in that we are allowed up to 3 hens / roosters as long as they are at least 25 feet from neighbouring homes. we will be going with 2 hens (at least that is the plan thus far). we can't have any other livestock - though 1 block away they are zoned for horses, goats, pigs...
i thought north van might make allowances?

Look what came up today through "How to of the Day" on my Google homepage: http://www.wikihow.com/Keep-Chickens-in-a-City. The "urban chicken movement - love it!

We love our city hens! When we built our coop, we incorporated some of the ideas of this one : http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/product/chick_n_hutch.html The Chick-N-Hutch and Chick-N-Pen are a nice combo, but spendy.

And now I will be going to eat some fresh eggs! Yum! Good luck with your project!
