monday monday

i did something i rarely do. i cleared our calendar this weekend. i slacked off on plans we had made. i offered (lame) excuses and (through the understanding and generousity of our friends!) was able to stay close to home. it was the first bit of weather we have had that felt anything close to fall and all i wanted to do was cocoon with my family. it felt so good.

read.to.me

as i have mentioned the little bug seems to be having the most difficulty with her sister going off to kindergarten. i hadn't even considered it really, but she is used to having her near all the time. and now she isn't. of course it is hard on her. (she has regressed quite a bit - but we are working with that - and trying to be very patient.) so this weekend it was a treat just to see them together. playing. reading. jumping in the puddles. (we had rain - what a treat!)

d however did not take it easy. and our bathroom. has. tile! (he is busy at home as i type this finishing it up.) i am so pleased. next step - a proper tub faucet. and - gasp - a toilet can't be too far in the future. can it?? and someday (soon i think) it will look like this.

as for my new role at the big bug's school - i was voted in on thursday as president of the pta. this is something that doesn't really fall inside my comfort zone - but it is something i look forward to exploring, and seeing how i grow. (anyone out there have any pointers? i'd love to hear others' ideas, suggestions etc.)

happy monday!

Very cool on the PTA deal! I think it's great that you're jumping into this without a lot of baggage. It seems some people see the PTA as a personal power trip, not as supporting the school. I don't see that being your reasoning, and that's what needs to happen more often. Can't offer you much advice on running it, except to look out for the Queen Bees and stay true to yourself. Hugs!

Congratulations on the PTA presidency... I was surprised to find myself being the President of the school society here on Bowen (for a small Montessori school). It is a lot of work - and as I have passed it along to the next person now (after 15 months and a new baby), I am realizing some of the nuggets of wisdom I learned along the way - most of which can be boiled down to managing emotions and practicing really strong listening and speaking skills. I used to write all my thoughts down before a meeting, so that I could read them in a pinch (that happened several times). I spent a lot of time meeting one on one with people and learning about the history of the school and the board and how people interacted and related. I also found out the hard way that you've got to know what the big rocks are (priorities) so that you don't drown in the gravel (all the stuff that can sidetrack the school from fulfilling its mandate). I wish you great luck - prayers for wisdom, and patience, and great joy as you lead this group. If you ever need a listening ear...

I run from the PTA.... so does Sam but you go girl that school will never know what hit it. And all the kids will benefit because of it.

What a great idea - clearing the calender - for the girls. Mini Bug will be fine though. Lupina thought it was a bit weird, that Calvin went to school after a long summer vacation, but she's fine now. Ofcourse they're not as close in age as your Cute Bugs, but they are great friends ;o) Lovely pic of the girls in the chair that I want!
Love the color of your tiles, can't wait to see the finished bathroom. We're still working on our house as well and have a few large projects coming up - mudroom with shower + an extra room upstairs!
PTA....hmm...I'm in the *parent group* at Calvin's school, but we only take care of parties and other fun stuff like that. I DO attend all meetings there are at the school.
Have a great week Tracy ;o)

I kind of had a feeling that if you got involved in the PTA, you'd be a leader of some sort! You really seem to believe in the potential of your neighborhood school -- they are lucky to have you.

I love the tile! (I already did, but it really looks nice up on the wall.)
